GED
GED in Thailand: Everything Parents Should Know
How the GED works in Thailand — testing, recognition, cost, university pathways, and how it compares to A-levels and IB.
Thai and expat families are increasingly asking about the GED as a real alternative to A-levels and the IB. Here's a clear answer.
Is the GED recognised in Thailand?
Yes. The GED is recognised by the Thai Ministry of Education as equivalent to upper-secondary completion, and is accepted by most Thai universities for international programs, alongside US, UK, EU and Asian universities abroad.
Where do students sit the test?
GED testing is delivered at official Pearson VUE test centres. There are centres in Bangkok and other major cities, and exams can be taken year-round.
Cost
Each of the four subject tests costs around USD 80 (approx. 2,800 THB). The whole diploma is roughly USD 320 in testing fees — a fraction of one term at a traditional international school.
Timeline
With AI-personalised preparation and proper mentorship, most students complete the GED in 9–18 months. Compare this to the 2-year A-level or IB Diploma cycle.
What about university?
Pair a solid GED with a real portfolio — a business, an app, a film, a certification — and your teen often has a stronger university application than a generic IB graduate. Universities increasingly value evidence of real-world initiative.
