GED Thailand
GED University Acceptance in Thailand: Which Universities Accept the GED?
A practical directory of Thai universities and international programs that accept the GED — including Chulalongkorn, Thammasat, Mahidol and more.
One of the first questions Thai and expat families ask us is simple: if my teen earns the GED, can they still go to university in Thailand? The short answer is yes — the GED is recognised by the Thai Ministry of Education as equivalent to upper-secondary completion, and accepted by most Thai universities' international programs.
How the Thai Ministry of Education treats the GED
The Ministry of Education recognises the GED diploma as equivalent to Thai Matthayom 6 (Grade 12) completion. This makes GED holders eligible to apply to Thai universities on the same footing as students with a Thai high-school certificate — including for public universities, private universities, and international programs.
Chulalongkorn University
Chulalongkorn — Thailand's top-ranked university — accepts the GED for entry into its International Programs (BBA, EBA, BALAC, INDA, ISE, JIPP, Comm Arts and more). Typical requirements: a minimum score of 145 on each of the four GED subjects (some faculties ask for higher), plus English proficiency (IELTS/TOEFL/CU-TEP) and the program's own entrance exam or interview.
Thammasat University
Thammasat's international programs (BBA, BE, PBIC, SIIT, LLB international, Communication Design, etc.) accept the GED as an equivalent qualification. Applicants generally need a minimum of 145 per subject on the GED plus English proficiency; competitive programs like BBA and BE expect stronger scores and a maths/logic entrance test.
Mahidol University
Mahidol International College (MUIC) and Mahidol University International Demonstration School graduates route accept the GED. MUIC lists the GED explicitly among accepted high-school equivalencies for its bachelor's programs across business, science, communication arts, tourism and more, alongside English proficiency requirements.
Other universities accepting the GED
The list keeps growing. GED holders routinely apply to Kasetsart University's International Programs, King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) international programs, Assumption University (ABAC), Stamford International University, Webster University Thailand, Mahanakorn University of Technology, and Bangkok University International (BUI). Each has its own minimum GED scores and English requirements, so families should check the specific program's admissions page.
What scores do universities want?
The Ministry of Education equivalence baseline is a minimum of 145 on each of the four GED subjects, with a total of at least 660. Competitive international programs at Chulalongkorn, Thammasat and Mahidol typically expect 155–165 per subject and strong English proficiency. Aiming for 160+ across the board keeps every Thai university door open.
University abroad after a GED
GED graduates from Thailand routinely go on to universities in the US, UK, EU, Australia and across Asia. Paired with a strong passion project or portfolio — a small business, a body of work, a certification — a GED student often stands out more than a generic high-school applicant.
